Today I’m talking about the presence we leave online. This is an interesting topic to talk about and really think about because we like to think that we live in a country that has freedom of speech, and we do, so people don’t always think about what they’re saying. But these days a person really has to be careful about what they put online. You hear all kinds of stories about people who have lost jobs because of something they posted on facebook or twitter or their blog. And when we apply for jobs these days many employers will do an online search of you. It’s like doing a background check, only you have no say in weather they do it or not. Which can be pretty controversial, that’s why you have to be careful about what you post.
I think a good general rule of thumb would be to never post anything online when your not thinking clearly. That doesn’t just mean if you’re intoxicated, but also if you’re really upset. We don’t tend to think clearly when we’re angry. It’s also a good idea to review something a few times before you post to make sure this is something you really want to put out there for all the world to see.
I’m really hoping that this blog conveys me as someone who is professional, but also as someone who is intelligent, deep, creative and someone who has some really good ideas.
